College: mixed drinks in mixed company
2003-02-08 - 11:37 p.m.

discovered the second-to-last bit of advice for surviving college: #6. "only open your mouth as much as you need to."

was forced to ask myself what i would have done with an extra two years and eight thousand dollars. mitch makes a good point that if i'm going to think about RPI seriously (i hold the application in my hand, ready to digitally mail out) i need to think of it as a path to a career. you can't spend 90K on a job you don't plan on getting revenue from. and once again, reality bites me in the ass.

is it wrong, that i have more fun pretending to be someone else (RPGs) than being myself ('hanging out' at a party)? i see people who make a point to be themselves, and for the most part, they seem to imitate their friends. and when we finally pass the Turing test, will artificial intelligence be all we've cracked it up to be, or will it go out and get drunk and hang out on a familliar corner of the net, late at night? Would it like to skateboard down snowy slopes...does the 'artificial' imply that it can never replace the creator, or does the 'intelligence' imply that it can make complicated decisions (even if it is creative)?

i spent a considerable amount of time today resizing the windows on the directories of my computer and trying to get morrowind data files to runn. not long after, i later spent a considerable amount of time considering this waste of time. one of those internaly-bleeding-god-i'm-so-bored-and-have-no-energy days.

in other news: i got Maya4 to runn on my computer. it's as if the light of heaven has shone down apon me, but i'm too sick to lift my head from the gravel and witness it's beauty.

Withdrawl: the most deadliest of the psi diseases.

unrelated sidenote: at workstudy, i was promoted to a swivelchair position...it doesn't pay any more than my old position, and i do the same stuff, but I still get all the coke I want, at an unbeatable price.

flourine in the water? radioactive atoms in the milk? i recently hard a story about flourine having a docile-ness effect on humans. in grade school, we used to take the stuff every morning...straight from little government-sanctioned pakages...and there wasn't a choice not to take it, no flavours to choose from. it was the class joke to see how sick you'd get if you swallowed the stuff. another story, not too long ago, and i might have mentioned it, about some branch of the government being sued because they purposely put radioactive atoms into the milk that was distributed to schools for the children's lunch period. used to know kids who would put back three of those things in one sitting...i still can't stand the taste of milk.

after an embalming at UMass Medical, ended up getting a ride back to college with this girl who led me to believe that she actually believes yay olde theory "if a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it..." silly, foolish people at work. and she believes in God (of the allpowerful sort) as a real entity, but also believes in everyone else's ability to believe in their own gods...without, of course, believing in the bible. Somehow my brain refuses to believe there's enough room in this universe for one all-powerful cowboy, let alone an undisclosed number of them, that pop up whenever they are believed in (see "my father's first theory"). oh yeah, and she believes in free will (of the type not granted by radioactive decay). Too many cowboys in so small a town.

smoking warning: "cigarette smoke contains carbon monoxide" i used to be paranoid about this substance, from the moment i heard of it's effects. held my breath from the age of parkinglot-walking to the age of re-established-freshman. tobacco doesn't scare me, the image of sucking on a burning stick is just as useless a warning as that from the surgeon general. lung cancer, bah. but carbon monoxide, there's a real threat. and I quite smoking Thursday, for good...maybe for ever.

that's all for today folks. close-captioning provided in part by...you every wonder who provides the other part of the close-captioning? and if they failed to follow through with their part of the captions, would only half the lines of the script appear, or would every other word be missing?
