196 billion. Dollars. That's how much tobacco companies are expected to pay a group of 150 people in Florida. Punitive damages my ass. These people are greedy. They want to collect money from the death of millions of smokers, that died because we weren't sure that smoking caused cancer. But these people didn't quit when they realized it was giving them cancer. Some of them were probably smoking during the court recess. That's like suing your dealer because he sold you crack, and you didn't know that it had side effects. Hello! Side effects are why people DO drugs! And nearly everything gives you cancer; TV can fuCing give you cancer, but everyone watches it. These people made a choice to take a chance, and they knew that it could be dangerous. So how can they think that it is the tobacco companies that have given them cancer, and left them talking out of tracheotomy devices? The jury must have been really emotional, or on tear gas. 916 billion dollars is enough money to give every three Americans a brand-new VW bug. It's enough money to stop poverty in small countries. It's enough money to start a war. And it's not like the companies can even afford to pay that much. The companies will be crushed (all five that were sued), and the owners will be dealing with bankruptcy soon afterwards. These people aren't really going for punitive damages, they just want to kill off the tobacco industry, and destroy a large part of the economics in the US. And what do you suppose the government will do about this? Raise taxes. That's right, they'll raise taxes on gas because they're not getting enough money from addicted smokers. I wish these people would just quit complaining about the mistakes they made, and die already.
Well, I'll probably update this soon...until then, I'm gonna go sue Microsoft for emotional damage. :)
...Maybe someone will sue the Roman Catholic Church one of these days, for punitive damages. Why stop there? Sue the whole Vatican...sue Italy!
